The Selection Trilogy: A Review from My Serious Side and My Fangirl Side

CAN WE JUST TAKE A MOMENT OF SILENCE TO PRAISE KIERA CASS FOR THIS TRILOGY.
...
OKAY THE MOMENT OF SILENCE HAS ENDED. NOW LET'S GET TO THIS REVIEW.
~~ This is my personal review, K? My opinion. ~~
OFFICIAL REVIEW:
So, today I finished the third book in The Selection trilogy, The One. And can I just thank Kiera Cass for blessing me with these lovely novels? Throughout the series, I was engrossed. I couldn't get over this trilogy, and I was constantly obsessing over the latest thing in the castle or the newest feelsplosion between America and Maxon. America is one of the first female roles I've read about lately, and Kiera captured the strong femininity in a normal teenage girl perfectly. She accurately portrayed the scared yet strong emotions of a sixteen year old girl who had gone from being penniless to having fancy gowns and living in a castle.
Yes, there was a love triangle, and this might turn some potential readers off. If that's you, you stop right there. The love triangle in this series is not like the hopeless relationship ties in Twilight. This one involves America's true, valid thoughts that any girl would have. Even so, she still gets things done. She's strong and independent, and her character could do anything without the influence or approval of a man.
In the books, America is brave. She continuously stands up for her beliefs, even though she is consistently standing alone. She knows that the system for Illea is wrong, and she will state her point to anyone, including the king himself. She's not afraid to pay the price for her actions, as long as she believes in her heart that it's the right choice.
Kiera has that enchanting way of turning the character you hate most to the character you're attached to in the end, which is what she does multiple times. She also highlights the relationships between the girls and the conflicts in America's life more than she does the relationships between her and the men. I feel that this was an important element to the story, considering the whole story was not focused on the romantic element.
Overall, I would give this trilogy 5 stars. It was full of surprises and kept you on the edge of the seat with every page you turned.

FANGIRL REVIEW (SPOILERS)
ALRIGHTY FOLKS. THIS STORY MESSED MY FEELS UP AND I'M ABOUT TO TELL YOU WHY. SO SHUT UP.
FIRST OF ALL, THERE WAS THE WHOLE THING WITH ASPEN. SHE FREAKING LOVED HIM, AND HE LEFT HER FOR "HER OWN GOOD." EXCUSE ME, I'M SORRY, I DON'T THINK I HEARD YOU CORRECTLY. THEN HE SHOWS UP AT HER FREAKING CEREMONY WITH ANOTHER GIRL. FREAKING NO. SO SHE GOES TO THE CASTLE AND THEN CELESTE WALKS IN AND FROM THE START. FROM THE FREAKING START. YOU CAN TELL SHE'S GONNA BE THE MEAN GIRL. AND THEN MAXON'S ALL SEXY AND YOU JUST. UGH. AND THEY MET IN THE MOST INCONVENIENT WAY, TOO. OH MY GOD. AND THEN ASPEN (FREAKING ASPEN) HAS TO SHOW UP AS A GUARD AND FREAKING GUARD HER FREAKING DOOR. AND THEN SHE'S ALL CONFLICTED AND YOU'RE SCREAMING "PICK MAXIN YOU IDIOT" BUT NOOOO. SHE'S GOTTA THINK ABOUT IT. AND THEN MARLEE, HER ONLY FRIEND, GETS CAUGHT DOING THE DIRTY ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)   WITH A SOLDIER AND THEY FREAKING GET A LARGE STICK BANGED DOWN ON THEIR HANDS BECAUSE YOLO, RIGHT? AND THEN REBEL ATTACKS AND BAM NEXT BOOK. BASICALLY NOT A LOT HAPPENS EXCPT A LOT OF PEOPLE LEAVE AND OH YEAH. THEY'RE HIDING FROM REBELS AND THEY'RE ALONE AND MAXON'S BACK IS ALL JACKED UP BECAUSE HIS DAD BEATS HIM (FREAKING BEATS HIM) AND THEY'RE LIKE MAKING OUT AND STUFF AND AW A W. NEXT BOOK WOW. SO IT'S DOWN TO FOUR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE KING HATES AMERICA OH. SO THEN CELESTE (FREAKING CELESTE) DECIDES TO BE NICE AND THEN CUTE RAIN SCENES AND A SLEEPOVER MAKEUP PARTY BETWEEN THE GIRLS AND I LOVE IT. AND THEN MAXON AND AMERICA ARE GETTING ALL TANGLED UP IN BED BUT THEY DONT GET DOWN TO IT AND I WANTED TO SCRE AM BECAUSE THAY WERE TELLING EACH OTHER THAT THEY LOVED ONE ANOTHER AND THEN AMERICA GETS SHOT OH. AND THEN AMERICA'S DAD DIES BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY ALL OF THE BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO AMERICA. AND THEN MAXON SAYS HE'S GOING TO MARRY HER AND YOU'RE CELEBRATING AND STUFF BUT OH NOOOO. RIGHT AFTER MAXON LEAVES SHE AND ASPEN ARE JOKING AROUND AND SHE PUTS HER HANDS ON HIS CHEST TO FREAKING PLAYFULLY SHOVES HIM AND THEN FREAKING MAXON COMES AROUND THE CORNER WITH FREAKING KRISS AND THEN HE MISTAKES IT FOR ROMANCE. FREAKING. ROMANCE. AND THEN HE FREAKING CALLS OFF THE FREAKING ENGAGEMENT. THEN BAM A REBEL ATTACK AND CELESTE (FREAKING CELESTE) GETS SHOT IN THE HEAD. OH MY GOD. AND MAXON ALMOST DIES AND HIS LAST WORDS TO HER BEFORE SHE GOT DRAGGED AWAY WAS "BE HAPPY" AND I CAN'T TAKE IT. SO SHE'S THINKING HE DIED AND THEN AFTERWARDS SHE FINDS OUT THAT THE KING DIED SO LIKE YAY BUT THEN SHE FINDS OUT THAT THE QUEEN DIED ALSO AND RETDYVUBH. SO THEN SHE GOES TO SEE MAXON AND HE'S ALIVE AND HE PROPOSES TO HER OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG I CAN'T. I COULDN'T. I WON'T EVER BE ABLE TO. THEN THE WEDDING AND IT'S NOT HAPPILY EVER AFTER. IT'S SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT. BRB CRYING. ASPEN GAVE HER AWAY I CANT TAKE IT. BRB GOING TO DIE.
10,000 STARS.
THANK YOU, KIERA CASS, FOR RUINING MY EMOTIONS.
